Metabolic profiling in heart disease
نویسنده
چکیده
Identifying the individuals who will suffer a myocardial infarction as a result of coronary artery disease (CAD), in order to direct available therapeutic resources efficiently, remains an important limiting factor in the delivery of clinical care in the cardiovascular arena. Metabolite profiling is an example of a new type of diagnostic test that shows considerable promise. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy or chromatographic separations can be used to generate a ‘‘molecular fingerprint’’ of a serum sample, and cutting-edge pattern recognition techniques can then be applied to identify molecular signatures associated with the presence of occlusive atherosclerotic lesions and, perhaps in the future, those associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction. Such approaches may improve clinical management of CAD and at the same time provide novel insights into the metabolic disturbances that underlie the disease. Heart Metab. 2006;32:22–25.

Metabolic Profiling of Children Undergoing Surgery for Congenital Heart Disease
OBJECTIVE Inflammation and metabolism are closely interlinked. Both undergo significant dysregulation following surgery for congenital heart disease, contributing to organ failure and morbidity. In this study, we combined cytokine and metabolic profiling to examine the effect of postoperative tight glycemic control compared with conventional blood glucose management on metabolic and inflammator...

Objective(s): Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is dysfunction of the central nervous system and as a neurodegenerative disease. The objective of this work is to investigate metabolic profiling in the serum of animal models of AD compared to healthy controls and then to peruse the role of ghrelin as a therapeutic approach for the AD.Materials and Methods: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique was u...
متن کاملفراوانی سندرم متابولیک در بیماران بستری در بخش قلب بیمارستان فرشچیان همدان
Background and Objective: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is on a growing trend. Weight and age are among the most important factors affecting this condition. Evidence is indicative of a relationship between coronary heart diseases and metabolic syndrome. The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among patients admitted to the Cardiology Department o...
متن کاملDiet-induced metabolic syndrome model in rats
Background & Objective: Risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke increases with the number of the metabolic risk factors. In general, a person who has the metabolic syndrome is twice as likely to develop heart disease and five times as likely to develop diabetes as someone who does not have the metabolic syndrome. High-calorie-diet rodent models have contributed significantly to the analysi...
متن کاملEffects of Parenteral Vitamin D on the Biomarkers of the Endothelial Function in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Ischemic Heart Disease: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Cardiovascular diseases, in turn, are responsible for mortality of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). We investigated whether a single parenteral dose of 25(OH) Vit D could improve the endothelial function in T2D patients with ischemic heart disease. A randomized, placebo-controlled, and double-blind trial was perf...
